Top Natural Tips for Fighting the Winter Bugs

With weather forecasts promising ‘a big freeze’ and snow descending on Britain, pink noses line the bustling streets and pockets are brimming with Kleenex as the nation battles the grim weather and onset of the dreaded winter cold that’s “going around”.
Our lives are not always conducive to the ‘down time’ that having the grizzly cold demands; the kids still need their tea and deadlines aren’t being moved for your convenience. As ever a quick remedy is in order.  We don’t always have to turn to the chemist for help though. Drinking hot water with a slab of lemon, a teaspoon of Manuka Honey and some fresh ginger slices can work wonders for soothing a sore throat and easing blocked sinuses.  Manuka honey has added health benefits as well as tasting great. Unlike most honeys it has an antibacterial property that can help fight off those nasty bugs that cause colds. It can even be applied directly to the skin to treat minor cuts and skin problems.
To help the immune system some Thera Zinc lozenges might just do the trick. With added  Vitamin A and Slippery Elm, they can provide the tools to help your body fight back on its own, without leaving you feeling run down.
When it comes to fighting the flu there’s little we can do to get rid of the virus, it sadly is one of those things we just have to battle through feeling very sorry for ourselves. But drinking plenty of fluid, orange juice and getting enough rest can make it a little easier. Taking natural supplements such as  Echinacea can help boost our immune system so our body’s defences are primed and ready to fight any invading viruses.

Winter might come riddled with snivels and sneezles, but the crisp winter air, the smell of wood fires burning and being able to slop around in my favourite ‘granny’ cardigan does put a big smile on my face. Any excuse to wriggle into the sofa equipped with hot chocolate, crumpets and a soppy film.
